Crowned Eagle is a game from the Untamed series, offered by Microgaming and having a focus on nature and on eagles in this particular case. Other slot machines from this series will give us the same kind of design, but with a focus on tigers, wolves or pandas. With the Eagles in the big role, you’re looking at their habitat in the mountains and at multiple symbols that are build around them. The game features a total of 5 reels, 3 symbols on each column, plus a total of 243 ways to win, always active. Crowned Eagle features collectable symbols that can eventually bring you wild reels, as well as regular wilds, scatters and free spins where the wilds can increase your payouts by as much as 10x. A top reward of $22,500 is possible here.

Betting requirements

Though most slot machines which rely on this many ways to win (243) will need only 25 coins to get them all covered in the wager, Crowned Eagle will ask for 30 coins or more. That’s the equivalent of 30 lines for the wager, with the option to have between 1 and 15 coins used on each one. There is also the denomination of those coins to decide on, with a minimum that is at just $0.01, and a maximum that’s taken up to $0.20. It’s not a large coin value, but it’s enough to allow the line bet to reach $3, since there are so many coins in use. The maximum bet in Crowned Eagle can go up to $90.

Theme & Design

The idea behind Crowned Eagle seems to have been the creation of a majestic design, and they partially succeeded, especially through the tall mountains that are shown behind the game area. You’re looking at the places where eagles actually live and where they roam free. You’re also getting a look at a family of these eagles, the members being visible in multiple symbols. Some symbols will show you the eagle alone, others will display a close-up of an eye, or the entire family sitting in the nest. Logos and images of other animals from the region complete the list of symbols that matter most here. The ones that pay less and which also do the most damage to the quality of the design would be the poker cards, five of them and all colored the same way, in a very ugly mix of brown and silver.

Special Features

Check out the wild symbol first, the one that shows you the Untamed Crowned Eagle logo. It is a symbol that is capable of taking part in all sorts of regular combinations, as long as it is positioned on the reel where you need some other symbol. With the ways to win as a method of forming combinations, the wild is quite useful. If you have the three or more wild symbols in position from left to right, then they form combinations directly as well, and they pay up to $1,500. Something else to keep in mind with the wild symbol is that you can collect it when it lands on a reel. Each reel has four tiny boxes placed underneath. Each collected wild goes into a box underneath the reel it was on. Once you have four wilds collected from a single reel, that column will be turned. You will have a wild reel there, for the next four paid spins. The Eagle’s Eye, a scatter symbol, is going to bring you 10 free spins when appearing 3, 4 or 5 times. At the same time, those symbols can also bring you payouts which are the equivalent of 5, 25 or 250 times the total bet. If the Eagle’s Eye symbol is only partially visible, it’s possible to get lucky and to have a nudge take place, pushing the symbol to the reels and making it count. During the free games, you will have access to the Soaring Wild. This is a symbol with wild capabilities and with a random multiplier, in the range of 2x to 10x.

Though we find that multipliers are possible during the free spins, they can’t push the payouts of the regular combinations into first place. The biggest reward of the game still comes via the scatter, which multiplies the total bet by up to 250x. You can get a top reward of $22,500 from it. The average RTP of Untamed Crowned Eagle is very close to 97%, so I have nothing to say negatively about its long term potential.

Crowned Eagle has pretty good features and a superior average RTP, but at the same time it’s one of the less interesting designs I’ve seen from Microgaming. If you can get past the look, it can be a good game to play.
