About

For Treasures of the Pharaohs, it seems that Pragmatic Play has chosen one of the most often selected themes of all times, Ancient Egypt. This ancient civilization has sparked the imagination of many with their accomplishments, and so quite a few slot machines are going to have pyramids, pharaohs and their ancient gods on the reels. It doesn’t make for very interesting gameplay, but let’s see what else the game has to offer before we reach a conclusion. This is going to be a 5 reel game, with 15 lines offered inside. Offered at Pragmatic Play casinos, it’s going to have bonus games, scatter symbols, a lot of free spins and the usual expected wilds. Its best payouts can bring the player rewards of $10,000.

Betting requirements

Because you have a total of 15 active lines for each spin that you trigger, you also need an equivalent number of coins in the bet, at least if you want all of them active. The game allows the player to change the number of lines, just as he can modify the denomination of the coins. The coin value is between $0.01 and $5 in value. With all your lines active, this will allow you to spend between $0.15 and $75 per round.

Theme & Design

This is one area where you can tell right away that the game is not one of the top choices you could make in its category. The Ancient Egypt theme is already terribly common in the casino industry when it comes to slots, but at least some games manage to offer a great design when sporting it. With Treasures of the Pharaohs, I’m not impressed at all with the design. It’s got a dated look, based on Egypt indeed, but not good enough when you consider how much competition the game has. The actual symbols are a mix of images that other slots have used before, and some new ones that I actually loved to see. There is so little innovation in the Ancient Egypt themed slots, that I’ve come to appreciate symbols like these, with Cleopatra rowing in a boat on the Nile, with a scene with a priest and a woman, or the scene where a priest is fighting a giant snake. There are some symbols which are very common as well, images of scarabs, pharaohs or bracelets. Finally, there are poker card style symbols as well, made to look like they were done on stone tablets.

Special Features

Hand-carved coins are visible in some of the symbols offered by Treasures of the Pharaohs, which makes them appropriate for that time period. These are also the wild symbols, and they have the logo to prove it marked on them. As the wild symbols, they are going to substitute for regulars, the symbols which are trying to form combinations on lines that are active. It doesn’t help you to trigger any features. Scarab Hunt is the name of a bonus game that the slot offers, provided that you land enough Scarab Amulet symbols on the middle three reels and on one of the active lines. Those three reels are the only ones to get this symbol. In the bonus game, you can expect rewards within a range of 25 to 600 coins, depending on your luck and skill. It does seem like a feature that requires skill, since you’re asked to catch three red scarabs in order to get the biggest prize. The free spins couldn’t have been missing from a modern slot machine, and they are indeed available here. The image with the priest fighting a giant snake is the one that gets to trigger the feature. It’s a scatter symbol, appearing on all the reels. You get from three scatters 10 free spins, while four will trigger 20 spins and five will offer a huge number, 100 free spins. Apparently, it’s even possible to trigger both the free spins and the bonus game during the same round.

Jackpot

Treasures of the Pharaohs can pay relatively well, at least for a slot machine which has this many features to offer. You can get a reward of 2,000 coins from it, which should be enough to bring you a reward of $10,000. I couldn’t find the average RTP for this particular version of the slot, but the ones which have 1 to 5 lines will come with varying numbers, anywhere between 88% and 96.99%. While I like that upper limit, I’m not a fan of the lower one. Not sure how the RTP looks like for the 15 lines version, but if it’s anything like the others I’d suggest you skip it.

Conclusion

It’s a game with good features, but with payouts, graphics and theme that can be easily found somewhere else. It doesn’t look like a must play title.
